ABOUT THE WORKOUT

"Poetry and music are siblings: both stem from the human's insatiable urge to sing. This generative workshop will take inspiration from the prolific poet, artist, and songwriter Leonard Cohen to write poetry that moves on and beyond the page. Writers will play with rhyme and rhythm to create musical and voice-driven expressions of experience; we will look to Cohen's poems as guides. Following Cohen's thematic focuses, we will reflect on love, connection, and spirituality to engender work that thrums with vitality. Writers will be invited to experiment with the spatial arrangement of words on the page by letting their words dance. Writers of all levels and Cohen fans of all varieties are invited to sign up for this program." —Maria Hiers
